Thank god! the 100th anniversary of Russ & Daughters has brought us the Russ & Daughters Cafe. It turned out to be the restaurant that drove me to the moon.
Unaffected history, decor with personality, menu with thought, old-world style design, nostalgic logo, quality food, great service. Everything here was just freakin’ clever.

Malt and chocolate egg creams & Coffee soda
Both drinks are not to be missed. I love egg creams. My first sip was the the moment I closed my eyes and wished I can start off every morning like this…….
The Classic – Gaspe nova smoked salmon, cream cheese, rye bread, tomato, onion, capers
Beautiful sliced smoked salmon, beautiful ivory cream cheese, beautiful negative space within the bread, and beautiful tomato, onion, dill and capers, which created only more flavors, but no compromises.
Pickeld Herring Trio – Canapes of pickled herring on pumpernickel
Super Heebster – Whitefish & baked salmon salad, wasabi-infused fish roe, horseradish dill cream cheese, bagel toast
Every bite of the trio was satisfying. The sourness of herring did its job to balance out the mild bitterness in pumpernickel. And oh the Heebster, I was smiling the whole time while eating it.
‘Like’ doesn’t even begin to describe my feeling for Russ and Daughters. I want to get married…or at least return soon… And I will be sure to be quite au fait with all the Jewish terms on the menu.
